Tail Command

The Unix command tail is the number one binary I wish I had in Windows by default. Powershell’s Get-Content -file c:log.log -Wait just isn’t the same.

DNS TTL

Studying for my MCSA in Server 2012 the second chapter really kicked my ass. Being a technician I don’t really run into DNS very often, only setting up A records for domains I own but knowledge of Time To Live is paying off. Set the TTL on my production domains to 300 seconds down from 14400 and will make the migration process so easy.

XPS 12

Been migrating these domains with a loaner XPS 12 from work. Specs are as follows:

Model: XPS 12-9Q33
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Memory: 8GB
OS: WIndows 8.1

This thing cranks and the touchscreen flips almost effortlessly around the bezel. In the commercials I assumed the laptop was made out of cheap plastic but this is solid. Would recommend. OK, back to work.

Fresh VPS

Nothing like the control of a VPS to run your sites on. Crazy fast and completely customizable. DNS is taking forever though. Working on bringing my sites back up today and tomorrow.

DigitalOcean VPS

Seriously digging Digital Ocean’s cheap ass VPS. Plenty of RAM to handle running a bunch of sites for me. May move my git server from Bitbucket.org to a self hosted GitLab setup. Love Bitbucket for the private repositories but a whole private server might work out better.
